Damba Tamang is the only male member of the women group in Talakhu. He joined a women group after his wife died in the earthquake (2015). She was inside the house and the house collapsed on her during the earthquake. During the interview, he was asked about why he joined the women group, he answered with tearful eyes, and “My wife used to tell me that being in a group is good for family and benefit our community. We can learn many things and help our daughter to educate and guide her.
She was confident with the knowledge and skills, she learned from the program and hopeful of our better future. She is no more but I have kept alive this hope and dream so I joined the group as her representative. My daughter is 10 years old now and after 6 years, she will complete her school education after that she will take over my membership. I hope she will have similar interests and involvement in this women group like her mother.”
